With great sadness, we report the loss of Jim Doherty on October 25th.  He will be sorely missed.  The following is from the Columbus Dispatch:

DOHERTY James J. Doherty, of Upper Arlington, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born May 3, 1912 the son of John and Alice (Fives) Doherty in Rileyville, Pa., where he enjoyed this past summer. He graduated from Fordham University Law School and Columbia University School of Business in New York City. He retired as Vice President from Nationwide Insurance Company after 40 years of service. He was also a 40 year member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert Doherty. James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bette Doherty; sons, Jamie (Sandee) Doherty of Barrington, Ill., John (Merilyndle) Doherty of Sewell, NJ., Stephen (Mary ) Doherty of San Francisco, Ca., and Jerry (Debbie) Doherty of Dublin, Oh.; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Doherty of Bethesda, MD., Helen Swinton of Warfordberg, Pa., Anne Murphy of Tonawanda, NY., Monica Vavricka of Bordentown, NJ., and Kathryn (George) Lowe of Richfield, Oh.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Sunday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2000 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Rd. at Reed Rd. Fr. Kenneth Anderson, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Oh.
